Bielefeld, September 2nd, 2022 – How does healthy growth in e-commerce work – despite consumer skepticism, inflation and the like? What role will artificial intelligence play in online retail in the future? And why should shops become more of a service provider? Questions answered at this year’s E-Commerce BBQ on September 2, 2022, organized by the logistics service provider B+S GmbH Logistik und dienstleistungen, in Bielefeld. With over 20 speakers and around 680 participants, the organizer was not only able to provide insights into the trends in online trading, but also set a new record.

For the fifth time, the e-commerce BBQ, which has now established itself as an industry meeting point for exchange in a relaxed atmosphere, attracted e-commerce professionals, logistics experts and other interested visitors to the B+S premises in Bielefeld Fuggerstrasse 17.

Theory meets practice

Once a year, the logistics property is transformed into an event location – and that during ongoing operations. Because while 680 participants found out about the trends in online trade, networked and consumed delicacies from the smoker, around 30,000 packages left the location in the direction of the end customer, in keeping with the topic of e-commerce. Interested parties could also find out how this operation works on site during a tour of the plant and the neighboring UPS hub. In addition to a look behind the scenes of logistics practice, the participants could look forward to more than 20 keynote speeches on exciting topics from online retail. For example, Jonas Rashedi from the well-known brand Douglas, who shed light on the importance of data in online trading, was there. The online marketing specialist Felix Beilharz, well-known from television, gave an insight into how marketing for online shops will work in the future, what role AI will play and how to keep an overview of the target group of online shops in times of tightened data protection regulations. And many other speakers such as Björn Tantau, Katharina Kremming and Robin Heintze gave insights into every important point along the customer journey.

Region meets internationality

With the online grill shop Grillstar.de or the credit agency Creditreform Herford & Minden Dorff GmbH & Co. KG, the region around Bielefeld was well represented among the sponsors of the event and the speakers. There were also speakers and visitors from all over Germany – from Berlin to Cologne to Konstanz. Thematically, any borders between regions and countries were then torn down. For example, in the presentation by Julius Komp from exporto.de, who dealt with the automation of customs clearance processes for shipping to Switzerland and Great Britain.

Stefan Brinkmann, Managing Director of B+S and initiator of the E-Commerce BBQ, is more than satisfied with the anniversary edition: “Five events, five records. We are very pleased that we were not only able to break our visitor record, but also create a framework to promote exchange across trades, regions and countries. We would like to thank all sponsors and partners who made this possible and are already looking forward to the next E-Commerce BBQ on September 1, 2023.”
